How to Test for Lead
In addition to toys, lead can be present in products like blinds, lunchboxes, and paint in houses built before 1979. It's always wise to check items in your house that might have lead in them, particularly if they're handled by children.
To test for lead, first open a package of LeadCheck® and read the instructions carefully.
1 - CRUSH
With Swab tip pointing up, squeeze and crush points"A" and "B" located on the barrel of the Swab. (Note: Swab must be used immediately after "crushing.")
2 - SHAKE & SQUEEZE
With swab tip pointing down, shake twice and squeeze gently until the yellow liquid appears on the swab tip. Be careful not to get liquid on your skin. Wash with soap and water if this occurs.
3 - RUB
While squeezing swab, rub the tip on the inside of the lunchbox for 30 seconds.
4 - RESULTS
If the Swab tip turns PINK or RED, lead is present.
Orange or yellow does not indicate lead.
If the color change does not occur within one minute, a second text can be conducted on the lunchbox.
After test, wash test surface on the lunchbox with an all-purpose household cleaner.
